Crowns

Tooth Crown
If you have a cavity or injury that has severely damaged your tooth, it’s important to know that all is not lost. A tooth crown can protects a weak or damaged tooth for many years. These appliances are sometimes called dental caps because they cover all visible portions of a tooth and look and feel like the natural tooth.
There are a number of reasons your tooth may need a dental crown:

  1. After dental implant surgery.
  2. After root canal therapy.
  3. To correct teeth discolorations.
  4. To support and protect a tooth with a large filling when it does not have sufficient natural structure.

Types of Dental Crowns
All-porcelain or all-ceramic dental crowns are typically cosmetically pleasing. Dentists often suggest ceramic as the material for a front tooth crown because of their natural appearance and color-matching ability. Combination or porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns provide a strong and natural-looking surface with the benefit of added durability. Composite resin crowns are less expensive than other types, but they are also weaker and more vulnerable to fracture. Metals crowns such as gold, nickel, chromium, and palladium are used to make permanent dental crowns but are not as discreet as other varieties. However, but they do provide excellent strength and a tight seal.
